The wind industry needs to ensure the best possible safety and health protection for operating personnel. As a result, the world's leading wind turbine companies have formed the Global Wind Organization (GWO) and established standards for various safety training courses. Global Wind Organization is a non-profit organisation founded by wind turbine manufacturers and owners for an injury-free working environment in the wind industry, establishing common international standards for safety training and emergency procedures.

The AFNOR group is one of the certifying bodies required to audit training providers wishing to offer GWO certified training.

MORE ABOUT GWO STANDARDS

GWO members strive to create an injury-free working environment in the wind industry by establishing common international standards for safety training and emergency procedures.

The GWO standards aim to ensure that members work in an injury-free environment in the wind industry, by meeting common international standards for safety training and emergency procedures. How do the GWO standards work in the wind farm training environment?

1. GWO members create training standards that reflect the risks their technicians face on the job
2. Training providers, certified according to GWO criteria, deliver the training
3. Employers accept training from GWO Certified Technicians, wherever they are trained
4. Employers avoid duplication of training and technicians are available for more productive work days on site.

All GWO members strive to create an injury-free working environment in the wind industry by establishing common international standards for safety training and emergency procedures. As a result, members have standardised this training, achieving a wide range of measurable benefits.

AFNOR UK, part of the AFNOR Group, has registered with the GWO to certify organisations that are striving to meet the requirements of the GWO standards.

BENEFITS OF CERTIFICATION

  • Meeting customer expectations for good practice and improving reputation
  • Join the only international industry association focused on safety and training
  • Creating and influencing the adoption of safety standards worldwide
  • Fostering unique professional relationships

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR CERTIFICATION?

Training providers wishing to become certified to deliver GWO training are required to demonstrate compliance with the following four pillars:

1. Management systems and support processes
2. Physical resources
3. Personnel resources
4. Training and evaluation

Each pillar is an essential element required to meet the GWO criteria for training providers and should therefore be treated with equal attention, as they are the cornerstones of training that supports greater safety in the wind industry.

The certification process differs from a simple management systems audit in its focus on training delivery and the taxonomy of learning.

AFNOR UK has developed an appropriate checklist to ensure that all requirements stipulated by the GWO are implemented in the office and training environment.

4 PILLARS TO BE CERTIFIED

  1. Management systems and support processes
  2. Physical resources
  3. Personnel resources
  4. Training and evaluation
