Module 2: Combustion
Combustion processes and operating principles of boiler systems fuelled by biomass fuels.
Module 3: Steam turbines
Brief development of the steam turbine, together with modern construction techniques, operating principles and auxiliary systems.
Module 4: Boiler water management
Impurities in water and the need to treat water for use in steam boilers.
Module 5: Boiler water supply systems
One function; construction and operation of a small modern boiler feedwater heating system.
Module 6: Cooling systems and auxiliaries
A function; construction and operation of auxiliary support systems found in small-scale biomass power plants.
Module 7: Electricity and generation
Basic units of electrical theory and three-phase alternating current generation.
Module 8: Control and instrumentation
Basic units of measurement required for a control system.
Module 9: Plant operation
Requirements and processes for cold start-up.
Module 10: Legal, safety and environmental issues
Basic understanding of many complex legal, safety and environmental issues.
