At the Consumer Electronics Innovation Conference (CEIC 2026) in Shenzhen, AFNOR and the World WLAN Application Alliance (WAA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening their cooperation in the field of WLAN technologies and certification. This new milestone reaffirms AFNOR’s commitment to innovation, digital trust, and the development of international trade.

From October 22 to 24, 2026, the city of Shenzhen hosted the Consumer Electronics Innovation Conference (CEIC 2026), one of China’s leading events for technological innovation. Under the theme“Innovation for Infinity,”the event brought together more than 1,000 representatives from industry, academia, international organizations, and professional associations.

More than 300 leading technology companies participated in this year’s event, including Huawei, Lenovo, Honor, Haier, China Mobile, and China Media Group. Together, they showcased the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, connectivity, consumer electronics, and digital solutions.

Artificial Intelligence and Connectivity at the Heart of Industrial Transformation

Among the highlights of the conference, the Industrial Development Forum focused on the changes taking place in the consumer electronics sector as a result of artificial intelligence.

The discussions focused on several strategic areas:

  • next-generation smart terminals;
  • connected operating systems;
  • smart vehicles;
  • integrated home connectivity ecosystems;
  • models for the industrial commercialization of emerging technologies.

These themes reflect a strong global trend. According to IDC, the number of connected devices is expected to exceed 41 billion units worldwide by the end of the decade, while improving the quality of wireless networks is becoming a key challenge for the deployment of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced digital services.

On this occasion, Myriam Augereau-Landais, Managing Director of AFNOR International and Presidentof AFNOR China, delivered an opening video message highlighting the importance of international cooperation in accelerating innovation while ensuring trust, interoperability, and quality in digital technologies.

A Strategic Agreement Between AFNOR and the WAA

One of the highlights of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between AFNOR and the World WLAN Application Alliance (WAA).

The agreement was signed by Cindy Zhenya Shen, Regional Manager for Asia-Pacific and Europe at AFNOR International, and He Yang, Secretary General of the WAA, on behalf of their respective organizations.

This collaboration aims to strengthen ties between European and Chinese ecosystems in the areas of wireless connectivity, standardization, and certification.

Created to improve the user experience of WLANs (Wireless Local Area Networks), the WAA brings together a wide range of stakeholders: technology providers, telecom operators, certification bodies, testing laboratories, research centers, and universities. The organization contributes to the development of international standards as well as the establishment of evaluation and certification frameworks tailored to the real-world applications of wireless technologies.

Concrete Opportunities for Businesses

Through this agreement, AFNOR International and the WAA aim to develop operational partnerships in several areas:

  • vocational training;
  • technical testing and evaluation;
  • the certification of products and services;
  • support for accessing international markets;
  • the dissemination of best practices regarding the quality and performance of WLAN technologies.

This collaboration will also make it possible to draw on the expertise of AFNOR’s teams in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region to support companies facing increasing demands in the areas of cybersecurity, connectivity, and interoperability.

Building Trust in the Technologies of Tomorrow

In a world where wireless networks form the invisible backbone of digital transformation, standardization and certification play a vital role in ensuring the quality, security, and compatibility of solutions deployed on a large scale.

Through this new partnership, AFNOR International reaffirms its commitment to supporting responsible innovation and fostering dialogue among international ecosystems in order to build a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable digital environment.

Building Global Trust Through a Century of Experience—AFNOR Successfully Hosts the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

From September 28 to October 2, the 2026 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Annual General Meeting, hosted by the French Standards Association (AFNOR), was successfully held in Paris, France. As AFNOR celebrated its 100th anniversary, representatives from standardization bodies, policymakers, industry experts, and industry representatives from more than 170 countries and regions around the world gathered in Paris to discuss the key role of international standards in addressing common global challenges. The theme of this year’s conference was “Building Trust in a Changing World.” The agenda centered on three key areas: “People and the Planet,” “Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence,”“Trade and Development.” On the first day of the conference, ISO/UNDP 53001:2026, “United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Management System—Requirements,” was released to help organizations transform the Sustainable Development Goals from commitments into actions that can be managed, implemented, and measured. The conference also hosted a special session on the new ISO 9001 Quality Management System standard, featuring discussions on how quality management can help organizations turn trust into a strategic advantage. This year’s conference heard the ISO Secretary-General’s work report and focused on reviewing major governance matters, including the implementation of “ISO Strategy 2030,” the digital transformation of standards, business policy, the election of governance officers for the 2027–2029 term, and the 2027 financial budget. The winners of the 2026 Lawrence E. Archer Leadership Award were also announced. Throughout its century-long history, AFNOR has consistently been a key participant and driving force in global standardization governance. During the meeting, following a proposal by AFNOR and approval by ISO members, ISO officially released the “Paris Declaration” on addressing climate change in the global standards sector, calling on member countries to rely on international standards to strengthen climate adaptation capacity and development resilience, and to advance the implementation of the global Sustainable Development Goals.
