COP30: A call to action from the Amazon
COP30, held in Belém in November 2025, was a key moment in the fight against climate change. Countries announced a historic financial commitment of $1.3 trillion per year by 2035 to support climate action. Funding for adaptation is set to double by 2025 and triple by 2035, and the loss and damage fund is now operational. However, despite this progress, no clear agreement was reached on phasing out fossil fuels, highlighting the ongoing challenges of turning ambitions into binding obligations.
ISO 14001:2026: A standard aligned with the challenges of COP30
In this context, the revision of the ISO 14001 standard, scheduled for March 2026, takes on strategic importance. This new version will explicitly incorporate climate and biodiversity issues, strengthen the life cycle approach to better assess environmental impacts across the value chain, and clarify management responsibilities to align organizational strategy with sustainability objectives. It will also emphasize increased accountability, in line with social responsibility policies and sustainable development goals.
AFNOR International: Supporting the transition through training and certification
In light of these developments, AFNOR International is positioning itself as an essential partner to help companies with their transition. Our ISO 14001 training courses will enable teams to understand the new requirements and anticipate their impact on environmental management systems. Practical workshops will provide tools for implementing the new clauses, managing climate risks, and integrating biodiversity into operational strategies. International certification will enhance the value of these commitments to customers, investors, and regulators.
COP30 showed that governments are moving slowly, but businesses do not have the luxury of waiting. The revision of ISO 14001:2026 represents a unique opportunity to get ahead, structure a credible approach, and strengthen business resilience. With AFNOR International, the commitments made in Belém can be turned into concrete actions through training and certification.
