This innovative e-learning course has been developed by power industry professionals as a fundamental resource for anyone working as an operator in the production of electricity from waste and biomass fuels. Offering a comprehensive insight into the general construction and operation of the main and auxiliary plant used in power generation, the course uses the methods of open learning to allow candidates to plan their own study periods.
The course incorporates operational and statutory requirements, covering both environmental control and health and safety. It explains the basic theory underlying the processes involved in power plant operation.
The course is suitable for technical generation engineering staff, new graduates and unit operators.

Function; construction and operation of a modern small scale boiler feed water heating systems.
Module 6: Cooling & Auxiliary Systems
Function; construction and operation of the auxiliary support systems encountered in small scale biomass fired plant.
Module 7: Electricity and Generation
Basic units of electrical theory and three phase AC generation.
Module 8: Control and Instrumentation
Basic units of measurement required for a control system.
Module 9: Plant Operation
Requirements and processes for the start-up of the plant from cold.
Module 10: Legal, Safety & Environmental Issues
Basic understanding of many of the often complex legal, safety and environmental issues.
