AFNOR UK receives approval to issue the new UKCA marking for gaseous products throughout the UK.

AFNOR UK, a subsidiary of the French standards operator AFNOR Group, has achieved UKCA marking accreditation jointly with its sister company Certigaz to serve UK businesses post-Brexit, as well as international customers.

AFNOR UK, based in the West Midlands, can now offer UKCA as a stand-alone certification or, in conjunction with sister company Afnor Certification, in combination with CE marking, for gas appliances. The organisation is about to be accredited to cover building materials, fire safety and PPE.

Gas-related products
Previously, companies in the UK were required to comply with EU safety, health and environmental requirements as part of the CE (European Conformity) marking, which also indicated a product's compliance with the legislation and allowed free movement within Europe.

From 1 January 2021, the UK Government has implemented its own UKCA for products placed on the market in England, Scotland and Wales, with companies having until 1 January 2023 to become marked. To facilitate the UKCA, the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredits Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to enable them to be appointed as Approved Bodies in accordance with current legislation. With this accreditation, AFNOR UK can offer both UKCA and CE marking, acting as a one-stop shop for customers, facilitating the movement of gas-related products throughout Europe.
