The voluntary ISO 50001 energy management standard dates back to 2018. Now it's time to ask about an update. The international standards organization is asking you.

Voluntary standards are updated on a regular basis, usually in five-year cycles, in order to remain relevant as references for economic actors in naturally changing markets. Like the recent ISO/IEC 27001 on information security, the ISO 50001 standard on energy management could well give rise to a new version, as the current one dates back to 2018, a version that had then succeeded the original version of 2011. It is available in the AFNOR collection under the name NF EN ISO 50001.

The voluntary ISO 50001 standard provides energy managers with guidelines for internal energy management, with the aim of improving energy performance. It allows to :

  • Build an energy savings measurement plan with indicators,
  • demonstrate continuous improvement in energy performance,
  • to make the envisaged energy savings reliable and to verify them,
  • prepare for the regulatory energy audit.

The International Organization for Standardization and its technical committee ISO/TC 301 invite you to answer the positioning questionnaire to find out whether or not professionals feel the need to update the standard. The consultation can be accessed by clicking here and remains open until January 31, 2023. You will be kept informed of the results.
